Between the 9th of December and 14th of January, we went into a number of Spain’s official language schools (EOIs) in Madrid and Cantabria, delivering talks about Uganda.
We showed a presentation about the challenges faced by a rural community in Kakumiro District in Western Uganda and what Adelante Africa does there.
At the end of the talks there was a sale of the beautiful creations of the Young Women’s Sewing Group. These handmade bags, aprons and toiletry cases are made by a group of young women in Igayaza, who had previously learned practical sewing skills in the yearly sewing class run by Adelante Africa.
As well as making clothes for their neighbours, they also earn money by crafting items for us to sell.
A massive thank you to the students and staff at the EOIs for participating so enthusiastically and purchasing so many items! Your support means that this project can continue and makes a huge difference to these young women and their families.
Entre el 9 de diciembre y el 14 de enero, estuvimos en varias Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas (EOIs) de Madrid y Cantabria dando unas charlas sobre Uganda.
En la presentación, hablamos sobre los retos que afronta una comunidad rural del distrito de Kakumiro, al oeste de Uganda, y el trabajo que hace Adelante África allí.
Al terminar las charlas, pusimos a la venta las preciosas creaciones del Grupo de Costura de Mujeres Jóvenes. Estas bolsas, delantales y neceseres están hechos a mano por un grupo de jóvenes de Igayaza que aprendieron costura en las clases anuales que organiza Adelante África.
Además de confeccionar ropa para sus vecinos, ellas también ganan un dinero extra creando estos artículos para que nosotros los vendamos.
