This October three members of the Adelante Africa board in Spain visited Uganda to see how the projects were going.
The visit was quite action packed! They spent time at the Omwaana Tugende Children's Home and the Adelante Africa Secondary School. It was really heartening to see how both projects are "shining" as they say in Uganda.
The Omwaana Tugende Home has recently been painted with donations from Spain and the secondary school was again the school with the best results in the District of Kakumiro this year.
Omwaana Tugende is home to 64 abandoned or abused children and the school includes around 60 students who come from very vulnerable families and who have sponsors in Spain and the UK who pay their school fees.
The members of the Spanish board also visited the nine children at present sponsored at St Peter's Vocational Institute, studying design and fashion, electrical installations, plumbing and mechanics. They took part in the celebration where the girls who have studied hairdressing and sewing this year received their certificates.
It was wonderful to see how happy and excited the girls and their parents were. They now have a skill which gives them an alternative to early marriage.
Above all the Spanish board members wanted to discuss with the Ugandan board and the leaders of our projects in Kakumiro how we can make the Omwaana Tugende Children's Home more sustainable and, as part of this, they visited the Omwaana Tugende Farm and the irrigation system which has been donated to the Home by the District authorities to help with the production of cash crops. However, no visit to Uganda would be complete without getting stuck in the mud at some point and this trip was no exception!
All in all they went back to Spain with a very positive impression. Adelante Africa Uganda is helping to change lives for the better.

Este mes de octubre, tres miembros de la junta de Adelante Africa en España visitaron Uganda para ver cómo iban los proyectos.
¡La visita estuvo llena de actividad! Pasaron tiempo en el Hogar de Niños Omwaana Tugende y en la Colegio Secundaria Adelante Africa. Fue realmente alentador ver cómo ambos proyectos están “brillando”, como se dice en Uganda.
El Hogar Omwaana Tugende ha sido recientemente pintado gracias a donaciones de España, y el colegio de secundaria volvió a ser este año el colegio con los mejores resultados del distrito de Kakumiro.
En Omwaana Tugende hay 64 niños abandonados o maltratados, y en el colegio hay unos 60 estudiantes que provienen de familias muy vulnerables y que cuentan con padrinos en España y el Reino Unido que cubren sus matrículas.
Los miembros de la junta española también visitaron a los nueve niños que actualmente están becados en el Instituto Vocacional St Peter’s, donde estudian diseño y moda, instalaciones eléctricas, fontanería y mecánica. Participaron en la celebración en la que las jovenes que han estudiado peluquería y costura este año recibieron sus certificados.
Fue maravilloso ver lo felices y emocionadas que estaban las chicas y sus padres. Ahora tienen una habilidad que les ofrece una alternativa al matrimonio precoz.
Por encima de todo, los miembros de la junta española querían dialogar con la junta ugandesa y los líderes de nuestros proyectos en Kakumiro sobre cómo podemos hacer que el Hogar de Niños Omwaana Tugende sea más sostenible. Como parte de ello, visitaron la Granja Omwaana Tugende y el sistema de riego que ha sido donado al Hogar por las autoridades del Distrito para ayudar en la producción de cultivos comerciales. Finalmente, ¡ninguna visita a Uganda estaría completa sin quedar atrapados en el barro en algún momento, y este viaje no fue la excepción!
Los miembros de la junta regresaron a España con una impresión muy positiva. Adelante Africa Uganda relamente está ayudando a cambiar vidas para mejor.
